Wall Screen Setup Guide
Everything you need to get a LinguaWall LCD screen running in your kitchen.
What You Need
- 1. An LCD monitor (10″–36″) mounted on the wall
- 2. A mini-computer: Raspberry Pi 4/5, Android TV stick, or Mini PC
- 3. HDMI cable (to connect computer → screen)
- 4. Wi-Fi or ethernet connection
- 5. Power for both screen and computer
Step 1 — Connect the Hardware
- Attach the mini-computer to the back of the LCD using the included mount or Velcro strips.
- Connect HDMI cable from the computer to the screen.
- Plug both devices into power.
- Connect the computer to your restaurant Wi-Fi.
Step 2 — Open the Wall Screen URL
On the mini-computer, open a web browser and navigate to your LinguaWall wall URL for this zone:
Replace ZONE with one of the zone IDs below. The &kiosk=1 part hides the controls so staff can't accidentally close the screen.
zone=kitchenzone=expozone=dish_pitzone=break_roomzone=storagezone=generalStep 3 — Log In Once
- When the page loads, it will ask you to log in.
- Sign in with the restaurant's LinguaWall account (the one with the active subscription).
- The screen will show the wall display — you only do this once.
- The session stays active across reboots, so the screen recovers on its own after a power outage.
Step 4 — Set Fullscreen / Kiosk Mode
To prevent the browser from showing tabs or address bars:
Raspberry Pi (Chromium)
chromium-browser --kiosk "https://your-app.base44.app/wall?zone=kitchen&kiosk=1"Android TV stick
Install the Fully Kiosk Browser app from the Play Store, set the URL, and enable fullscreen + auto-start on boot.
Mini PC (Chrome)
Open Chrome, press F11 for fullscreen. To auto-launch on reboot, add Chrome to the startup folder with the --kiosk flag.
What the Screen Shows Automatically
- Live mode: Shows the last few translated messages from conversations in this zone, updating in real time as people speak.
- Auto-switch: If nobody has spoken for 2 minutes, the screen automatically switches to showing saved phrases so it's never blank.
- Auto-return: When someone starts speaking again, the screen switches back to live mode automatically.
Troubleshooting
Screen shows a login page after reboot
Log in again. If it keeps happening, check "remember me" or use kiosk browser with persistent cookies.
Screen is blank or shows old messages
Check the Wi-Fi connection. Refresh the page by unplugging and replugging the computer.
Wrong zone is showing
The zone is set by the URL. Update the URL to match the station where this screen lives.
